Ghassan al-Dahini, the new leader of the Abu Shabab clan, announced that his group would intensify its fight against Hamas in southern Gaza.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 12, al-Dahini said, “Why should I be afraid of Hamas when I am fighting Hamas? I am fighting them, arresting their men, confiscating their equipment, and expelling them. I am doing what they deserve in the name of the people and free individuals.”
A video circulating on Telegram shows al-Dahini greeting members of his group, which he described as a message demonstrating the forces’ readiness and high morale.
He said, “The video’s objective is simple and clear: to show that the ‘Popular Forces’ are still active, and to check on the well-being and high morale of the young men there.”
Al-Dahini’s appointment came after the death of the clan’s previous leader, Yasser Abu Shabab, on Thursday, during clashes between armed groups in southern Gaza.
Reports indicate that he was not killed by Hamas fire, but rather in an internal dispute. Al-Dahini also participated in the attack and was wounded.
