1. AMMAN CITADEL
One of the most treasured distention in Amman. This archegonial landmark that is located at the center of the city in downtown Amman – Jordan on top of Jabal Al-Qala’ a hill.
Jabal Al-Qala’ a hill is 850 meter above sea level and overlooks toward the old city of Amman, that special moment your feel the breeze of all these ancient ruins touching your checks and your eyes is enjoying the artistic paint the old city creates.
Amman Citadel that is UNESCO World Heritage Site that contain 1700-meter wall dated back to the bronze age, the Umayyad Palace and the Temple of Hercules that make it one of the best places to visit in Amman-Jordan.
THINGS TO SEE Amman Citadel:
– Temple of Hercules
A temple that was built by the Romans, with only a few parts of the structure that we can see today that is telling us the old story. The Hand of Hercules; that fabulous hand statue. So many other ancient ruins that is scattered at the top of the hill as and artistic abstract.
– The Umayyad Palace
The best-preserved structure in Amman Citadel, aged since the 7th or 8th centuries. The experience inside this palace ruins and the feelings of passing through its narrow paths is a real time traveling story to tell.
– BYZAINTE CHURCUH
A 6th Century Church, how much close view to the previous worshipers these ruins send us to. I feel I can hear their Sound Until Now!
– Jordan Archeological Museum
The museum is a home of statues that is back to the 600-800 BCE. A very ancient book to dig in its pages.
The Entrance to Amman Citadel can cost you only 3 JOD, from 8 AM to 7 PM, where inside you can find shops and markets for some needed snacks, also in the downtown that is far from the citadel 5 minutes walking you can find many restaurants and different markets. The restaurant is remarkable for its best local food that can be in Amman-Jordan.
2. Roman Theater
In here we stand in an architectural edifice that is doing its function of stage entertainment for 2000 years ago until this day.
A huge amphitheater that holds 6000 spectators at once. Located in the downtown city of Amman. It is built at the foot of Jabal Al-Joufah where it is carved, that is in the opposite of Amman Citadel hill. Where from the theater we can evidence the greatness of Amman Citadel and its ancient Ruins.
The architectural design of the amphitheater and its location designing gives it its aesthetics. The seated are facing the north so the audience are protected from the sun, the stage is about 100-meter width and the wooden stage is elevated 1.5 meter with 13-meter radius.
The amphitheater holds on its both sides 2 museum, Folklore Museum and Museum of Popular traditions.
The row of columns in front of the theater and the public square of 100×50 meter are once among the largest in the Romanian empire.
The Entrance to the Roman Theater can cost you only 2 JOD, from 8 AM to 8 PM, where from the auditorium you can see Amman Citadel and make a visit to Amman Downtown that is 5-7 mints far by taxi’s which are easy affordable in the area. Amman Downtown has many restaurants and different markets and old traditional cafés.
3. Qasr Al-Kharrana
In 60 KM east of Amman, in the middle of the dessert dunes, you can stand in front of a walls with height that is back to the Islamic Architecture under the Umayyad Caliphate; A Palace since 710 AD, the castle owns an expansive views of all directions.
The great Kharrana Palace is built as military stronghold protecting the trade routes between the greater Jordan area and Damascus in the Islamic period.
The Palace has stables, a lot of rooms and courtyard, where these functions were used for Bedouins meetings then.
The Palace open from 8 Am to 5 PM, the location is best for photo sessions, the average time to spend there is possibly to be 45 minutes.
4. Royal Automobile Museum
The First public automotive museum in the Arab Region. The museum was initiated by 2003 showcasing parts of Jordan. The museum shows some of King’s cars and motorcycle that some of them dating from 1909.
The Museum is open from 11 AM to 7 PM Friday to Thursday. The tickets may cost you 4$ only. The Museum is near to King Hussain Mosque, that can be visited together.
5. Royal Tank Museum
This Museum is a national Museum, where it is the first specialized tank museum in the region. It is displaying more than 150 tanks within 20,000 sqm. Exhibition tools are telling interactive story where both the Jordanian and foreign visitors will enjoy.
The Museum will take you in an exciting journey through history that displays how wars were fought and the heroes of tank battle, the great Arab Revolt & Jordanian Battle of Karameh. Learn more about the tactic of wars & battle & indulge in the real life of a soldiers.
The Museum is open from 10 AM to 5 PM Friday to Thursday. The tickets may cost you 7 $ only.

1. Al-Balad – Downtown Amman
Al-Balad is the downtown of Amman City, Jordan Capital. It is also surrounded by 7 hills and it is the oldest part of the city that goes back thousands of years ago.
Al-Balad is the real heart and soul of Amman, the extraordinary restaurants and the local music you hear while passing by and the local people who are going for their businesses will make you feel that you are part of this city since long time.
Al-Balad was first inhabited around 6500 BC. What you can do and see in this rich place; you can visit Al-Balad Market, Al Hussaini Mosque, passing by Al-Duke Diwan the oldest residence in the area.
Al-Balad can be visited from 9 up to 12 PM in night, where it is free of charges. Al-Balade is a place to be explored on foot.
The Boulevard
A Mixed-use complex located in Al Abdali, consist of 370-meter-long walking area surrounded by shops, restaurants and markets. The boulevard shows the modern part of the city, where u can see the contemporary design of the buildings and the big courtyards that create a best place for festivals and gathering.
Its best to be visited in Night, where the atmosphere of the place will be dominant, the walking tourists and locals, enjoying groups in restaurant terraces of low and high views of the buildings.
The entrance to the walking area is free, and prices of the restaurants is relatively mid prices.
RELIGIOUS PLACES
The Religiose sites in Jordan have a wide range in different time zones due to the ancient civilizations passed through Jordan history up to this date, Amman is considered as one of the best places to discover the historical religious stories.
1. The Cave of the Seven Sleepers
This site is remarkable for both religions; Muslim and Christians; the site is a cave of 7 mans who escape from the empire of Ephesus city who was doing a persecution toward worshipers.
The location is partially man built and partially natural; it is a burial cave dating to the byzantine ear. The Quran mentioned the story of the 7 sleepers as they slept 300 years in that location then they awaked thinking that they have slept for one or 2 days.
The location is free to be visited, where the tourists should wear full cloth to pass inside.
2. Grand Husseini Mosque
One of the oldest mosques in Amman, it was rebuilt by king Abdullah I in 1932 on the same location of the previous mosque that was built by Omar bin al Khattab the second Muslim Khalifa around 640 AD.
To enter the mosque, tourist should dress a fully covered dress by following the worshipers while they entire to the mosque by noon for Duhr pray, the entrance is free. During this day you can also visit the souq and buy spices & fruits, and the special Jordanian Sweets; Kunafah.
